Chiropractic care focuses on musculoskeletal and nervous system health. When these systems are not functioning properly, they can cause pain, loss of motion, and even suppress the immune system.

Chiropractic adjustments can help to relieve these conditions and allow the body to heal itself naturally from within.  A chiropractor can use in conjunction with adjustments, soft tissue therapy, exercise/stretch instruction, and posture/ergonomic corrections.

Chiropractic care helps to realign joints, reduce nerve interference, and improve range of motion. In doing this, it helps to alleviate pain in the back, neck, and extremities, reduces muscle spasms, and helps the body heal itself by optimizing nervous system function.

Yes. It improves musculoskeletal function, which reduces stress, aids sleep quality, increases joint mobility, decreases inflammation, and enhances nervous system communication. Your chiropractor can also educate you on how to help maintain your adjustments which serves to act as preventative maintenance.

Common conditions chiropractors treat are low back pain, neck pain, headaches, disc injuries, sciatica, shoulder/elbow/wrist pain, knee/ankle pain.

The chiropractic adjustment is a precise force applied to the area either by hand or instrument to help to restore motion to a joint.  If the motion of the joint happens quickly, people can experience an audible pop sound, which is gas escaping from the joint capsule.  Many people like to hear this sound, but if the sound is not heard, it doesn’t mean that the motion wasn’t restored.

You should see your chiropractor for chronic complaints, acute complaints, after a personal injury, after an injury involving work or a vehicle.  You can also see a chiropractor as preventative maintenance.

Yes. In fact, low back pain is one of, if not the most, common conditions people see a chiropractor for.

Depending on the cause of sciatica, there are different treatment options. Not all options are offered at every chiropractic office. Sometimes spinal adjustments alone are not enough to help with sciatica. Decompression therapy is often needed for sciatica.  Examination by and discussion with your chiropractor will help determine if complete care is available. At Parchem Chiropractic Center, different treatment options are available for sciatica relief.

Yes, chiropractic care can help to correct a pinched nerve.  Although one or more factors can contribute to the pressure on the nerve, a chiropractor can help through spinal corrections, soft tissue therapy, and/or decompression therapy depending on which factors you are dealing with.

Yes, chiropractic care has been shown to significantly help in reducing or eliminating neck pain. Not all cases have an immediate response. Some cases can take up to 4-6 visits to correct the issue, however, the patient will most likely be experiencing pain relief as the treatment schedule progresses.

Yes, a chiropractor can help with headaches, especially those arising from the cervical spine misalignments. Postural and/or other stresses may be the underlying factor on why the headaches are present, but your chiropractor can help determine which factors you may be experiencing and develop a plan to reduce or eliminate them from your everyday life.

Many herniated discs can heal on their own without surgery. However, pain management will most likely be key while recovering.  A chiropractor can help with inflammation and trying to restore function through traction therapy and other modalities.  A person can take medication if they desire for inflammation and pain relief in conjunction with the chiropractor.  You will have to lower your activities to a tolerable level while recovering. Healing can range from weeks to months.  A person’s overall health (obesity, smoking, sedentary, etc.) will play a key factor in recovery.

Our bodies were not made to withstand most of the forces that are involved with a car accident.  The forces can put a lot of stress on the soft tissues, leading to pain and misalignments of the spine and other joints.  Your chiropractor can help keep range of motion while the tissue heals. Whiplash in particular, if left unmanaged can lead to chronic neck pain often decades later after the accident.

Sports put good and bad stresses on the body. That is why it is a good idea to see a chiropractor while you are engaged in your sports season to make sure you are performing at optimal levels. However, injuries do occur, and your chiropractor can help speed up recovery through different treatment options such as Kinesio taping and other therapeutic modalities. These and more treatment options are available at Parchem Chiropractic Center.

Adjustments can last anywhere from hours to indefinite. There are many factors at play when it comes to whether adjustments are effective or not. Posture is easily one of the biggest factors.  Lifestyle choices and our jobs are also at the top when it comes to adjustment longevity.  Sometimes minor changes to our daily routine can provide significant positive outcomes.

Although every case is going to differ, most cases are resolved within 3-6 visits.  Acute cases generally will be quicker, while chronic or more advanced cases can take longer to establish sustained pain relief.  There are also other factors that can play a role in recovery, such as the person’s overall health, lifestyle choices, and occupation.

Every person and every condition will have different treatment schedules. However, as a general rule, chiropractic care takes a more aggressive approach in the beginning to establish adjustments holding their corrections.  Once the body begins to respond, your visit frequency will and should start to decrease.  Ultimately, maintenance care is the goal, although not required.  Maintenance care typically consists of once a month or once every other month.

When one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in your spine. This pressure or irritation on the nerves then causes those nerves to malfunction, interfering with the signals traveling over them. Think of a garden hose when you bend it. Water will still come out, but not at 100%. The goal is to return to 100%.

Yes. There are, however, rare cases where chiropractic treatment is not suitable. This will be determined during the examination process.

No. A vast majority of patients report feeling a sense of relief. A chiropractor’s focus is to deliver low-pressure, high-velocity thrust to correct spinal misalignments (subluxations).

No. Some people like to give bear hugs to each other to hear the spine “pop.” This, however, is not an adjustment. It’s no different than cracking your knuckles. An adjustment is a specific technique that takes years to learn. A chiropractor must also see a chiropractor to get adjusted.

The number of adjustments depends on the health goals of the patient as well as the severity of each case. Understand that most cases don’t happen overnight and therefore cannot be corrected with a single visit. They take time to manifest themselves as pain and, as a result, take time to reverse. There isn’t a doctor out there who wants to see you once in your lifetime. Repeated visits to your chiropractor will help keep your body at an optimum level.

No. A chiropractor will only target spine segments that are “fixed or locked up,” thus returning them to their normal motion.

No. Pain is the body’s way of telling you that something isn’t right. Pain is the “last to show and first to go” when it comes to subluxations. However, since most of us can adapt to minor aches and pains, we will shrug off most cases. While the pain may go away on its own, the underlying problem is still present and getting worse, making it more difficult and more expensive to treat.

Yes, chiropractic care can be preventative.  It’s typically also described as maintenance.  The patient will come in once a month or once every other month for a check-up. The goal is to find misalignments before they start to cause any pain.  Many insurance companies, however, do not provide coverage for maintenance care. You should check with your insurance to see if your plan covers before scheduling.

Although it is normal that you can feel sore after an adjustment, it’s not very common.  Also, the soreness you may experience is usually short lived and not debilitating. It’s generally the soft tissues responding to the adjustment and icing for 20 minutes should take care of any discomfort.

Chiropractic care can directly and indirectly improve posture.  Cervical misalignments, for example, can decrease the natural curve we have in our neck. This results in forward head carriage, which can lead to aching muscles in our neck.  Your chiropractor can also show you exercises/stretches that can help restore posture, as well as, potentially showing you more ergonomic ways of doing everyday activities.

Yes, chiropractic can help with mobility as realignments help to restore motion to the joint. Adjustments and therapy offered by a chiropractor can also help reduce inflammation, muscle tightness/soreness, and reduce nerve interference, all of which will help to increase mobility once resolved.

Chiropractic care may not directly boost the immune system, but care can help indirectly affect it in other ways.  For example, chronic pain due to musculoskeletal problems can increase levels of stress. Stress is a known factor when it comes to immunosuppression.  Chiropractic care can help alleviate chronic and acute pain, thereby reducing stress, which can boost the immune system.

Nutrition plays a critical role in all aspects of health including the spine.  When it comes to the spine, a diet should consist of factors focusing on bone health, disc hydration, and cutting out processed foods (especially refined sugar) to reduce inflammation.

Most people take a supplement to supply the body with nutrients missing from their diets. Changing what we eat can potentially eliminate the need for supplements, but for many, this isn’t easy to accomplish.  As a nation, we eat poor-quality foods that have been stripped of their nutrients. The Western diet is comprised mostly of processed and refined foods. We eat a tremendous amount of prepackaged, pre-made meals.  All this being said, proper nutrition works well with chiropractic care.

Spinal decompression is a therapy that uses a motorized table that applies traction to the cervical or lumbar spine to help alleviate pain, brachialgia, and/or sciatica mainly due to vertebral disc issues. These issues commonly are degenerative disc disease, disc bulges, and disc herniations.  It’s designed to help restore discs to their proper thickness and relieving pressure they may be putting on the spinal cord and the nerves.

Flexion-distraction is a therapy that uses a specialized table that applies traction to the cervical or lumbar spine to help alleviate pain, brachialgia, and/or sciatica, mainly due to vertebral disc issues. These issues commonly are degenerative disc disease, disc bulges, and disc herniations. It’s designed to help restore discs to their proper thickness and relieve pressure they may be putting on the spinal cord and the nerves. Parchem Chiropractic can help with your flexion-distraction needs.

Yes, chiropractors recommend stretches/exercises to their patients. They compliment their adjustments well. In many cases, stretches/exercises can pose long term ability for the patient to hold adjustments better.

No, you do not need a referral to see a chiropractor. However, if you have insurance, you may need a referral for them to cover any expenses. This is all based on each individuals plan and you will have to consult your insurance provider to find out.

Your case will define what happens on your first visit.  It may entail a simple exam or a comprehensive exam.  I do not take x-rays as protocol.  We will discuss your complaints and address them with adjusting and therapies and answer any questions you may have.  Also depending on your case, I will give you stretching/exercises instructions and give you a time frame on how many visits your case may take.
